HIMSS has placed great emphasis on nurturing “Emerging Professionals” in health IT as defined as those with five years or less work experience in health IT. Hence the HIMSS Emerging Professionals community, now greater than 12,000 strong.
HIMSS goal when crafting the Emerging Professionals (EP) Community was to provide a platform and resource for individuals from diverse backgrounds and past career paths, but unified in the desire to join the health IT career paths. This is a collaborative network that fosters information sharing, new ideas and solutions on how someone new to health IT careers or those needing to better understand the concepts of health IT can be supported to ensure career advancement and support.
This year at HIMSS Annual Conference the Career Services Center will be hosting once again our Emerging Professionals community sponsoring a poster session to be held on Tuesday, March 5th, 2013 from 12:00 – 12:45 pm along with a question and answer session. All Emerging Professionals posters will be on display in the Career Services Center in the Signature Room at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
The poster topics were chosen from many submitted but judges chose those most innovative and reflective of the community. Topics were diverse. The following topics will be presented during the poster session: Leveraging Human Factors in Clinical Decision Support; ARREST: Automating Resuscitation Reports in the EHR for Simplified Tracking; A Data Model for Health Information Exchange; Clinical Informatics: Bridging the Gap Between Nursing and Information Technology; Affinity Analysis of Clinical Orders: Data-Based Order Sets; Using a National Survey Database to Study Oral Health Disparities in Appalachia; Use of Clinical Decision Support to Improve Chronic Kidney Disease Management; NC Health Information Portal Education Program Design; Providers’ Perspective on including Behavioral Risk Measures into the EHR; Patient Perceptions When Providers Utilize an Electronic Health Record.
This poster session being held at Annual Conference 2013 will also be an opportunity for health IT emerging professionals free networking and will provide healthcare IT career path resources targeted to those with five years or less work experience in this field.
